Yellow bin collection

All eligible properties are issued with a yellow wheelie bin for the collection of recycling by their local council. If you have recently built a property, get in touch with your local council to arrange delivery of your kerbside bins.

Each council has a different collection time, frequency, and bin size. Please see below for collection information for your area.

Christmas holiday details🎄

Refer to your local council below for details on bin collections and transfer station hours over the holiday break.

Thursday 25 December

  • No recycling and rubbish collections on Christmas Day. All collections for the rest of the week will be one day later than usual.
  • Invercargill and Bluff Transfer Station will be closed.

Friday 26 December

  • Thurday’s collection takes place today.
  • Friday’s collection takes place on Saturday.
  • Invercargill Transfer Station will be open.
  • Bluff Transfer Station will be closed.

Thursday 1 January

  • No recycling and rubbish collections on New Year’s Day. All collections for the rest of the week will be one day later than usual.
  • Invercargill and Bluff transfer station will be closed.

Friday 2 January

  • Thurday’s collection takes place today.
  • Friday’s collection takes place on Saturday.
  • Invercargill Transfer Station will be open.
  • Bluff Transfer Station will be closed.

Handy tips 💡

  • If you are unsure of your bin day, please look outside your street to see if others have put their bin out. Or head to our bin collection page and use the rubbish collection maps by using your address to search what your bin rotation is.
  • If it’s windy outside and your bin is barely filled, in order to avoid the bin toppling over and spilling its contents, you might want to consider waiting until it is sufficiently filled for collection.

  3. Find your address and compare the colour of your indicated area to the details in the Legend information box to find your collection day, and whether you are on Week 1 or Week 2 collections.
