WasteNet Southland has an extensive list of resources available to schools, students and the community interesting in learning more about waste and how to prevent it.  If you would like to borrow these resources please do not hesitate to contact us

 

Waste Minimisation Educator

WasteNet provide a free waste education programme to all Southland Schools and Early Childhood Centres.  The programme is flexible and can be customised to met your schools needs.  The focus areas for the programme/s are:  Paper Recycling, Worm Farming,  Composting and  Zero Waste.  

The programmes can include practical tasks such as setting up a compost bin or getting a recycling scheme started at the school.  If you are interested in a visit from our Waste Educator, please contact us.

World of Waste (WoW) Tour

Is your school studying Waste or Recycling this term?  We can arrange to take your students on a customised, exciting and educational trip through the World Of Waste (WoW).  Sites available include:  Kerbside Recycling Centre, Clean Up at the Beach or local reserve, Underground Worms (worm farming), Special screening of Beat the Rubbish Blues, Queens Park Composting Operation,  Local Transfer Station,  The Garage Recycling Shop and much much more.  Contact Us to register your school.

DVD's and Video's                

  

A variety of DVD's and Video's are availabe for loan. 

Beat the Rubbish Blues  |  Journey through Southland's world of waste as Peti tries to retrieve his hat that mistakenly went out in the Trash. 

Da Composti Code  |  Join John as he discovers that there is more to reducing waste than recycling alone.  With the help of local experts, John discovers the secrets of making compost.

TrashTalk  |  Join Fizz (the Can) and an Apple on an adventure into the place where rubbish doesn't get the respect it deservers.

Wa$ted |  Copies of TV3's popular Wa$ted television series proves that you don't have to be extreme to be green.  This entertaining series is full of tips and hints to help reduce our impact on the planent and save cash on household bills.

 

Resource Kits

3 R's |  Environment Southland has developed a Teacher Resource Kit that includes lesson plans for various primary school levels and support activities.

Pak-it   |  Packaging Council of New Zealand has developed a kit all about Plastics.  It involves an experiment to make your own plastic and activites to make your own packaging products.

Organic Recycling Programme |  This programme provides an overview of waste, before delving into the world of worms and how to step up a worm farm in your school.

Recycled Products  |  WasteNet has a box of products made from recycled materials i.e. potato plates, cloths pegs made from milk bottles,  material made from plastic,  glass beads for road-marking paint, recycled toner cartridges, tyre oil e.t.c.

  

Online Environmental Educational Resources 

Environment Southland  |  This site provides various resources, links and information on environmental education and the programmes Environment Southland has on offer for schools.

Bruce C Gull  |  Bruce C Gull is the worlds biggest (and friendlist) seagull and he is Environment Southlands mascot.  Find out what Bruce C Gull is up to on his very own website.

New Zealand Environmental Education |  The NZAEE is a nation, non-profit organisation working to promote environmental education.

CANBAC Steel Can Recycling  |  If you need to know more about steel - for school, work or home, this site has the resources for you.  The site includes interesting facts about steel, downloadable resources and a photo library, not to mention a great kids corner.
