Reuse
By reusing a product your are preventing another of those products from being created, and therefore cutting back the use of natural resources for its production.
Pause before you throw
The next time you go to put something in the bin, stop and let your imagination run wild and think about a way to reuse the product:
Reuse glass jars and bottles for preserving fruit and vegetables
Freeze leftovers in a reuseable plastic container/bag
Ice cream containers and take away dishes make great lunch boxes, and save you buying lunch wrap or a new lunch box
Use old clothing for cleaning rather than buying new cleaning cloths Broken crockery can be used to promote drainage at the bottom of plant pots
Reuse plastic bags for bin liners or doggy-doo bags when out walking the dog
Share a newspaper or magazine subscription with a friend
Use both sides of your paper for writing on
Buying more goods second-hand will increase the reuse of items and will reduce the amount of unsold second-hand goods being sent to landfill
Donate unwanted household items and furniture to charities, schools or second-hand shop rather than throwing them out Take old books, magazines, and toys to hospitals, doctors rooms, dental surgeries, waiting rooms, schools or preschools Transform your old cards and wrapping paper into gift tags
