Start recycling at home in 4 easy steps

Recyling at home is really simple and it's something that can involve the whole family.

 1.

Recycle at your back door

7 out of 10 Southlanders have access to a recycling service, whether that is a kerbside collection or a drop off centre.  Contact your local Council and find out what recycling service is provided in your area.

 2.

Find out what your Council recycles

Different Councils collect different materials, although most collect paper and cardboard.  Contact your local Council and find out what materials are accepted.

 3.

Sort your rubbish

Now that you know what items you can recycle, find a hany place to store them (kerbside crate, box, basket, plastic bag).  Make sure your encourage everyone in your house to think whether items can be reused or ecycled before they are thrown away.

Tip - store your recyclables by the rubbish bin, that way when you go to put an item in the rubbish bin, you will be reminded to ask whether it is recyclable.

 4.

Put out your recycling

If you have access to a kerbside recycling collection find out from your local Council what day your recycling will be collected.

If you have access to recycling drop off centres, combine your weekly supermarket trip with dropping off the recycling and save on the fuel costs and carbon emissions.
