A pair of reading glasses or spectacles

Spectacles

Glasses, eye glasses, specs, sun glasses, reading glasses, safety glasses

Did you know ... the earliest reference to magnification dates back to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs in 5th Century BC which depict "simple glass mensical lenses".

Reduce

Purchasing spectacles can be expensive.  Choose good quality frames in a design that will hold up to future fashion trends.   This will allow you to keep the existing frames and only replace the lenses when needed.

Reuse

Here are a few suggestions on what else you can do with your spectacles:

  • Keep them for a 'back-up' pair
  • Take back to your optometrist
  • Remove the lenses and use the frames as a prop for the kids dress-up box or theatre society
  • On sell
  • The Lions Foundation and the Fred Hollow Foundation accept spectacles.  They redistribute the glasses to people in need in developing countries.

Disposal

If you are unable to reduce or reuse your spectacles, the next best practical option is disposal to the regional landfill through you local refuse collection service.

Where do I dispose of it?
  • Local refuse collection service
