Waverley Parks Room 6 - thinking beyond the bin

On the 11 August, WasteNet was invited to deliver a "Thinking Beyond the Bin" session to the children of Room 6 at Waverley Park School.

Room 6's Glad-wrap Snail, made from one weeks worth of
glad-wrap (83 pieces).

The children had previously been looking at plastic in the lunch box and ways to reduce it.   Prior to WasteNet’s visit, Room 6 had already come up with some great ways of turning waste into a resource by reusing the packaging in their lunch boxes.

Some of the cool ways in which they reused their packaging included making ‘resourceful robots’, and a giant glad-wrap snail that was made from just one week’s worth of glad-wrap!

Room 6 will be taking their enquiry to the next stage by going on the World of Waste  (WoW) Tour where they will get a look behind the scenes at the Garage Reuse Shop, the Invercargill Transfer Station, Recycle Centre (Southland disAbility Enterprises) and the Pleasure Bay Reserve.
