Public Holiday Collections

Recycling and rubbish collections will be one day later than usual after a public holiday, with some exceptions.

Collection day changes for Christmas Day, Friday 25 December 2020

Invercargill City Council and Southland District Council recycling and rubbish collections will be one day later than usual due to Christmas Day public holiday.  Gore District Council recycling and rubbish collections are not affected.

Remember all mobile bins need to be placed out on time, as collection trucks may be earlier than usual.

Collection day changes for New Years Day, Friday 1 January 2021

Invercargill City Council and Southland District Council recycling and rubbish collections will be one day later than usual due to New Years Day public holiday.  Gore District Council recycling and rubbish collections are not affected.

All collections will return to normal on Monday 4 January.  Remember all mobile bins need to be placed out on time, as collection trucks may be earlier than usual.

Exceptions to the day later rule

  • Southland District Council recycling and rubbish collections operate as normal on the following public holidays: Waitangi Day, Queens Birthday, Labour Day.
  • Private recycling, rubbish and greenwaste collections - contact your service provided to ask about their holiday schedules.
