There will be no kerbside recycling and rubbish collections in Invercargill or Bluff on Monday 6 February 2012 to observe Waitangi Day. Southland District collections are not affected by this holiday, with collections continuing as normal. All transfer stations (excluding Bluff Transfer Station) will be open their normal hours. There will be no kerbside recycling and rubbish collections on Monday 26 December 2011 to observe Christmas Day and Monday 2 January 2012 to observe New Years' Day. All Transfer Stations in Invercargill City and Southland District will be closed on Christmas Day Sunday 25 December 2011 and New Years' Day Sunday 1 January 2012.
eDay organisers today announced that there will be no national eDay electronic waste collection in 2011. Despite strong interest from local communities and support from eDay partners, eDay cannot proceed without substantial central government support.

Westbury household proud winners of compost bin | 9 October 2011
Congratulations to the Westbury household, who are the winners of the compost bin. The Westbury family entered the prize draw while attending the Transistion Towns Spring Eco Festival on Saturday 8 October in Invercargill. Their best waste minimisation tip was to "put a bucket of under the washing machine hose and use the wastewater on the garden in summer". Recycling just got easier in Invercargill | 4 July 2011
Invercargill City Councils new kerbside recycling and rubbish collection service started today. Yellow 240-litre recycling bins and Red 140-litre rubbish bins have been delivered to over 20,000 households in Invercargill and Bluff. The new services allows residents to recycle a wider range of products including plastic packaging (bags, trays, containers, bottles, lids), paper and cardboard, aluminium and steel cans, glass bottles and jars and polystryene.

Southland District Councils new kerbside collection service started today. The new service sees residents within the designated refuse collection area recieving a yellow 240-litre recycling bin for the fortnightly collection of approved recyclables and a red 240-litre rubbish bin for the alternative fortnightly collection of rubbish (residual waste).
