Careless disposal of hot ashes are believed to have caused a rubbish truck fire in Invercargill yesterday, with the quick thinking of the driver being credited for averting what could have been a deadly incident.

Where are recycling trucks going?

We collect about 28-32 trucks of recycling every week in Southland.  We can only recycle if we have enough correct, clean items otherwise we have to send the truck contents to landfill.

Waste essential services continue

Rubbish collection is an essential service and will continue throughout the Covid-19 response period.  Kerbside recycling and rubbish collections will operate as normal.   However there are restrictions for Transfer Station operations.

WasteNet Southland is a joint committee of the Invercargill City Council, Southland District Council and Gore District Council.  The joint committee meet quarterly and locations are rotated around Council Offices.  Agenda's become available on this page this page two days before the meetings.
