Valentines Day

You love the planet and you love your sweet heart - now you can love 'em both at once. Green up your Valentines Day and impress your loved one with these top five tips.

5 heart felt tips

Cards

Send an e-card to your loved one or buy cards that have recycle content.

Flowers

Take a trip down to your nearest garden cent and buy the gift that keeps on giving - the whole plant - rather than just a dozen red roses.

If you aren't that into gardening go for the locally grown blooms.  When these blooms loose their 'gloss' make them into dried flowers or potpourri.

Chocolate

There's no rule that you have to give sweets to your sweetie, so why not save on the packaging and impress the missus with home-made double-chocolate muffins (just remember to clean up the kitchen before they get home).

Jewellery

If jewellery is the way to your lover's heart, then we highly recommend the vintage variety.  Visit your local second-hand dealer and see what vintage jewellery they have to offer.

Get Creative

Write a poem or song for your one true love.  And for those of us without creative bones in our bodies, consider giving the gift of an experience - glow warm caves, day trip to Stewart Island, romantic picnic at Oreti Beach, candle light dinner in the backyard, or simply spending time with your partner (as all you need is love).
